Our Board (Trustees)...
'Grannie' Jean Kerr
Grannie Jean Kerr owned and operated a successful Care Home for the Elderly for 12 Years on the Island of Cumbrae.
30 years as a Nurse then Midwife. Now a full time carer for my mother.
After being brought up and educated in Renfrew and at Paisley Grammar School I worked as a sign maker for Stimur/3M for 15 years. I came to live in Millport in 1991and worked in Hotel Services at the Lady Margaret Hospital and then as Cook there until 2001.In the past nine years I have been a volunteer with The Isle of Cumbrae Elderly Forum as a cook and Lunch Club Convenor.
This Trustee position is currently vacant.
I was a newcomer to the Island 6 years ago, and the Elderly Forum has given me the opportunity to meet local people and make new friends. As a Volunteer and now a Board Member, the Forum has provided an interest during my retirement, and the allowed me to give something back to the elderly community of Cumbrae.elderly community of Cumbrae.
Apart from our recently appointed Administrative Assistant to the Board, Stewart Grant, who works part-time and volunteers part-time, our whole organisation is run by a great team of volunteers from all walks of life who live on the island. We cook, serve, wash dishes, set tables, shop, visit, fill forms, write letters, man the shop, drive the minibus, drive members to hospital appointments, do hospital visits, attend meetings all over Scotland, deliver, phone anyone on behalf of members, act as key holders for alarm emergencies, listen and simply be there when they need us.
Obviously we don’t do these all at the same time, so please do not be put off joining our merry band as we have a great deal of fun while doing this.
